15 Jul What the best mentors do
1. Put the relationship first – mentoring requires rapport. Break the formal roles and find common ground as people.
2. Focus on building character – the best leaders go beyond competency training, focusing on helping to shape other people’s character, values, self-awareness, empathy, and capacity for respect.
3. Focus on optimism – Don’t shoot down others ideas right away. Consider why an idea might work, before you consider why it might not.
4. Be more loyal to your people than to your company – being a leader who is more devoted to helping others become better versions of themselves will help your company become better as well.
